3P Planning Approach©

A smarter approach to planning and protecting your future

Get to Know Our Approach to Financial Planning Logo.

Among today’s uncertainties, financial anxiety is high. Even people who are financially secure may be worried that catastrophe is right around the corner. Our planning approach shows an unwavering commitment to helping you manage your concerns and reach your dreams – we call this process the 3P Approach©

What is the 3P Approach© to Financial Planning?

We firmly believe there is no such thing as one-size-fits-all financial planning. The 3P Approach© was developed and refined through years of experience working with people just like you. Our proprietary process relies on a partnership philosophy and follows a series of six steps that guide us both through creating your unique plan.

Plan. Every journey begins with a well-designed roadmap. Specifically, we look at your financial goals, potential life changes like retirement or a career move,  your specific compensation and benefits package, income tax optimization, protecting those you care most about through estate planning, your desired level of charitable giving, and any potential business planning needs.

Prosper. Subsequent meetings expand upon this approach, as we explore your personal financial profile in depth. A hallmark of this approach means our financial advisors work with your other advisors like lawyers and accountants to form a trusted, cohesive team.

Protect. As each target is met, we help protect your portfolio from potential hazards.  With you as CEO, we work as your personal CFO to ensure you stay on track by helping you manage your fears and natural responses to them.  It is in these activities that you begin to see the importance of our process.

Another important aspect of our 3P Approach© is that it adheres to the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional standards.

Here’s a Closer Look at Our 6 Easy Steps Toward Implementing Your Plan

Step One: Discovery Back to Top

Number 1

Schedule an introductory call to discuss and explore your financial needs

We work with a select clientele who are driven to reach their goals, who value advice, and are fun to work with. In our first visit, we make a mutual evaluation, to determine if and how our services will best fit your needs and objectives.  During this no-cost consultation, no decisions are made. We don’t ask you to bring your financial documents with you. Instead, we spend the time discussing your situation and our services to ensure your financial profile fits what we do best.

In this meeting or the next, we will quote a fee, based upon the anticipated time and complexity of your financial situation. We believe that knowing the total cost upfront allows us both the freedom to work through the planning process. It also allows clients to contact and meet with us without the pressure of unanticipated fees.

Step Two: Fit Call Back to Top

Number 2

Discuss whether there is a good fit and whether we feel comfortable moving forward

We only take on a handful of clients each year so it is important to us that we both see a long-term relationship forming. As part of our unique 3P Approach©, we take time to assess all that we have learned about each other during the first discovery meeting. We carefully consider your situation to determine if there is a good fit with our philosophy and approach.

At the same time, you carefully consider if we can offer you the services and advice you are looking for. During the “fit call”, we reconnect and decide if there is a fit to move forward.

Step Three: Fact Finding Back to Top

Number 3

Begin gathering info using a variety of tools and software

Our goal during this crucial fact-finding period is to step into your financial shoes so we can begin to understand your thought processes. During the second meeting, we discuss your goals, views, attitudes, concerns, and current financial situation. This becomes the basis for your financial model.

An important aspect of discovery is understanding your financial behaviors. This insight will help you control innate behavioral mechanisms and biases which play a large role in the likelihood of reaching your goals. Also in this meeting, we review the engagement proposal, which outlines the work we will do together over the next 12 months and beyond.

Step Four: Development Back to Top

Number 4

Create your customized financial plan based upon your needs

Working with some of the brightest minds in the planning industry, we will do an exhaustive search to find the solutions that make the most sense for you.  In this step, we provide a detailed analysis of your situation, trying on a multitude of ideas and modeling “what-ifs” to determine the best path to reach your desired outcome.

During our third meeting, we present you with a plan that is unique to your situation and which outlines the logical progression of objectives, observations, and recommendations. With you as the CEO, and us acting as your personal CFO, we dissect the pros and cons of each strategy through an economic model. This helps you understand their impact, so you can make informed decisions.

Step Five: Implementation Back to Top

Number 5

After running through a variety of scenarios we implement your personalized plan

At this stage, the team aspect of the planning process is fully realized as we work with your other trusted advisors like your attorney and CPA. As a cohesive team, we continually act as a key to the marketplace on your behalf.

As Accredited Investment Fiduciaries (AIF®) we will act in your best interests. Whether through evaluating various investment options and products, coordinating tax reduction and estate planning strategies, or evaluating specific financial products, we help ensure they are right for each of your plan strategies.

Step Six: Review Back to Top

Number 6

Routinely review our efforts and make adjustments as your life unfolds

Because the planning process is ever-changing and evolving, as your financial planners we provide you with ongoing review of where our efforts have brought us, and what needs to be done in the coming year and beyond.

This is also where the 7 Pillars of Financial Success begin to play a role.  While not all of the pillars may be relevant to you today, many may be over time.  Through a routine cadence of reviews, you will watch your plan evolve with you, as your life unfolds.

These 7 Pillars Form an Important Base for Financial Success
